FORT HALL

ON THE REAL TRAIL

Fort Hall on the Snake River in Idaho was built as a trading post in 1834 and soon taken over by the British Hudson's Bay Company, which ran it while emigrants passed through in the 1840s.

Near Fort Hall, the trail split: the road to Oregon continued along the Snake River, and the road to California branched to the southwest.

IN THE OREGANO TRAIL

The fourth fort, and the one bargain on the trail: spare parts sell at Independence prices here. Stock up on wheels, axles and tongues.
