FORT BRIDGER

ON THE REAL TRAIL

Fort Bridger in southwestern Wyoming was a trading post built in 1843 by the mountain man Jim Bridger and his partner Louis Vasquez, to sell supplies and repair wagons for emigrants.

Some travelers skipped it by taking a shortcut west from near South Pass, trading the fort's supplies for a dry, hard stretch of trail.

The third fort. Prices keep climbing, now at 1.75 times what you paid in Independence.
