ON THE REAL TRAIL

The Willamette Valley in western Oregon, with its mild climate and rich soil, was the goal of the whole journey. Oregon City, near the end of the trail, was where many families first arrived.

After four to six months on the road, settlers claimed land and started farms in the valley.
