BLUE MOUNTAINS

ON THE REAL TRAIL

The Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon were a steep, thickly forested range. Emigrants often had to cut trees to clear a path and lower wagons down slopes with ropes.

Coming late in the trip, when people and animals were tired, the climb was remembered as one of the hardest parts of the journey.
